LOCALIZED AERODYNAMIC SHAPE OPTIMIZATION FOR AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS

M. Nayman¹, R.E. Perez¹; ¹Royal Military College of Canada, Canada

This paper examines the effect of unconstrained gradient-based optimizers for automotive drag reduction. Optimization is performed in areas of low and high adverse pressure gradients to evaluate the optimizer's sensitivity to the primal solution convergence. This work highlights that continuous adjoint methods for automotive use is best suited to regions of low adverse pressure gradients.
