TOWARDS A FIRST-PRINCIPLE BASED QUANTITATIVE DESCRIPTION OF TURBULENCE WITHOUT THE NEED FOR ADHOC MODELS

T.M. Schneider, EPFL, Switzerland

Although the Navier-Stokes equations have been known for more than two centuries, our understanding of fluid turbulence remains incomplete. Consequently, we rely on often adhoc turbulence models with many adjustable parameters. I will discuss how non-chaotic time-periodic exact solution of the flow equations may provide a path towards a first-principle based description of fluid turbulence.
