The microstructure and corrosion behavior of a friction stir welded 7075 aluminum alloy joint was investigated. Different zones of the FSW joint showed various corrosion behavior. The intergranular corrosion was ascribed to the galvanic coupling effect between Cu-rich grain boundary precipitates and the precipitates free zones. It is urgent to develop a systematic approach to mitigate such attack.
