This paper describes human-in-the-loop research at NASA Ames Research Center on en route air traffic management with advanced trajectory planning tools and increased levels of human-automation cooperation. Preliminary data suggests the controllers were able to manage higher amounts of traffic as compared to today, while maintaining acceptable levels of workload.
