This paper presents the advanced damage tolerance and risk assessment methodologies and case study for aircraft structures containing MSD/MED. The study showed MSD/MED significantly increases the probability of failure, and maintenance actions should be adjusted according to the MSD/MED crack growth, residual strength, and risk analysis results.
