Urban and advanced air mobility operations offer both opportunities and challenges. This paper presents initial results from a scientific assessment conducted by IFAR experts on the airspace integration and Safety Management Systems (SMS) topics. Technology area overview and state of the art assessment identify differences and commonalities in different countries. Early and long-term use cases are discussed to provide background for the gap analysis performed. Leveraging existing technologies can help early integration, and it is possible related data and standards based around sUAS and automobiles could be leveraged to SMS for UAM operations. The needs for international standardization of integration with existing airspace users, intent sharing, navigation, surveillance, operation concepts and guiding rules are also discussed.
