DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES TO ENABLE ZERO-CARBON HYDROGEN–POWERED [HPA] SHORT RANGE AIRCRAFT

P. Trinchieri, Belgium

The HPA Thrust will develop disruptive technologies to enable aircraft and engines to exploit the compelling potential of hydrogen as a non-drop-in alternative zero carbon fuel and to spearhead the development of solutions that can enable the market entry of hydrogen powered commercial flight. The focus will be on the challenges related to the utilisation of liquid hydrogen and the impact on storage, distribution, cryogenics and thermal management and design changes needed at aircraft, systems and powerplant level. rnClose cooperation with other EU and national programmes related to the production, distribution, storage, and liquefaction of Hydrogen, inter alia with the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking will ensure the aircraft technology development and future deployment is synchronised with capabilities and infrastructure on ground.
