FUEL CELLS AND NOVEL THERMAL MANAGEMENT ADVANCEMENTS REQUIRED FOR AVIATION

S.J. Wrightą, J. Aaltoneną; ąTampere University, Finland

Hydrogen with fuel cells (FC) is seen to be the future of green aviation. However, PEM FC under full load produce almost as much thermal energy as electrical output. Novel means of cooling and thermal management are required as FC stacks become larger, moving from 100kW to 1MW and current motor-vehicle solutions are not fully transferable - due to size/ mass/ volume constraints.
