ACTIVE FLOW- LOADS & NOISE CONTROL ON NEXT GENERATION WING (AFLONEXT): OVERVIEW AND RESULTS

M. Wahlich, Airbus, Germany

AFLoNext was a five-year integrated project (FP7 level 2) with the objective of proving and maturing highly promising active flow control technologies for novel aircraft configurations.rn40 partners from 15 European countries contributed and led AFLoNext to success in all major objectives. AFLoNext had an overall budget of approx.. 37M€ (23.7M€ effective funding).rnWithin 4 technology areas all major objectives have been achieved.rn1. Hybrid Laminar Flow Control: validation of technology (VTP & Wing by flight test and wind tunnel test).rn2. Active Flow Control: validation of technology on local applications (Wing, by wind tunnel test)rn3. Vibration Mitigation: development on numerical simulation and its validation (undercarriage area, by flight test)rn4. Noise reduction: in flight validation of noise reduction means (flap & undercarriage area by wind tunnel test and flight test).rnrnAFLoNext has delivered technologies, which will meet customers’ needs to reduce the overall environmental footprint of future aircraft. The joint collaborative approach of 40 partners from 15 countries was proven as a success story.rnrn
