POINT MERGE SYSTEM AND ARRIVAL METERING SYNERGY EFFECT ESTIMATION OF INBOUND FLIGHT EFFICIENCY AT TOKYO INTERNATIONAL (HANEDA) AIRPORT

T. Mori, Osaka Prefecture University, Japan

In this study, we quantitatively evaluated the effect of a air traffic control method called the Point Merge System (PMS) on the flight path of enroute from two metrics, which is flight distance and the number of heading changes. As a result, it became clear that the introduction of PMS can reduce the number of heading changes and flight distance. We can say that the news value is that we focused on the effect of PMS not on the PMS area but on enroute area, and calculated the number of heading changes and estimated the effect of PMS from the actual radar data. In addition, the analysis was performed using the track data before the introduction of PMS. Therefore, the proposed analysis can be applied to evaluate the potential effect of other air traffic control systems as well.
