The leading edge coverts are deflected significantly during the landing of the birds. The proportion of coverts in the total area of bird wings is equivalent to the sum of primary and secondary flight feathers. Coverts exist in the entire front edge area where the front edge attaches and separates on the upper and lower surfaces of the wings. The deflection mechanism of feather cover remains to be further studied.
