This paper addresses one of the key contemporary issues in avionics and Air Traffic Management Systems research: the development of a certifiable Detect-and-Avoid system for trusted autonomous air operations. In particular, how manned aircraft and unmanned aircraft can operate together in dense air traffic environments such as populated areas that are in the presence of Urban Air Mobility vehicles
