DEVELOPMENTS TOWARDS A TOOLCHAIN FOR UAV FLIGHT DYNAMIC MODELS IN EARLY DESIGN

S.J. Koeberle¹, M. Hornung¹; ¹Institute of Aircraft Design, TUM, Germany

Including dynamic simulations in the design process of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) at early design stages can improve its result. This work aims at the extension of the design environment ADEBO by developing a toolchain for creating flight dynamic models utilizing data typically available after preliminary design stage, such as geometries, component masses and positions as well as properties of the propulsion system. For toolchain validation, a process is presented which avoids the efforts of designing and manufacturing UAVs by extracting geometric data from 3D-scans and flight testing of UAVs already available. Finally, a case study is conducted using a UAV of type CARF-Models DG-800 S.
