NATURAL-LAMINAR-FLOW AIRFOIL DESIGN OPTIMIZATION CONSIDERING CROSSFLOW INSTABILITY WHEN CONFIGURED ON A SWEPT WING

This paper proposes a novel method to introduce crossflow pressure gradient (CFPG) into design optimizations of 2D NLF airfoils based on surrogate models. This method is able to take 3D CFI effect into account during the process of the design optimization of a 2D NLF airfoil to greatly reduce computational cost, compared with a full 3D NLF wing optimization.
