ATMOSPHERIC TURBULENCE EFFECTS ON SONIC BOOM PROPAGATION

Z. Qian¹, Y. Leng¹; ¹AVIC Aerodynamics Research Institute, China

Atmospheric turbulence seems to favor an increase rather than decrease in the ground boom overpressure, in comparison to the no-turbulence condition, it is found that the sonic boom increased in 55% of the cases. The atmospheric turbulence has a relatively small effect on the propagation path from the flight altitude to the ground.
