ROBUST DESIGN OF 3D SHOCK CONTROL BUMPS TO TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT UNDER REALISTIC UNCERTAINTIES

We present a novel approach for optimization under uncertainty and its application to a wing with 3D shock control bumps. The method leverages an adjoint CFD code and Gaussian Process models to efficiently handle high-dimensional problems. A gradient-based algorithm is used to optimize the statistics of the drag within a run time comparable to that of a gradient-free deterministic optimization.
