BLENDED WING BODY (BWB) PLANFORM MULTIDISCIPLINARY OPTIMISATION (MDO) FOR EARLY STAGE AIRCRAFT DESIGN USING MODEL BASED ENGINEERING

D. DI Pasquale¹, D. Verma¹, G. Pagliuca¹; ¹Cranfield University, United Kingdom

The approach proposed in this paper exploits model-based engineering principles for the development of a versatile software framework which can include multiple disciplines. A wing planform optimisation procedure for unconventional transonic aircraft is established by focusing on minimum drag coefficient , maximum aerodynamic efficiency (L/D) and minimum operating empty weight.
