ENTROPY LAYER EFFECT ON ROUGHNESS-INDUCED LAMINAR-TURBULENT TRANSITION IN SUPERSONIC FLAT PLATE FLOW

P.V. Chuvakhov, Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI), Russia

Isolated roughness-induced laminar-turbulent transition is investigated experimentally on a flat plate in the presence of entropy layer (EL). EL is due to small bluntness of the plate leading edge, radii varies from 0.1 to 2.0 mm. Roughness is a circular cylinder of height from 0.4 to 1.6 mm. The shape, dimensions and location of roughness are carefully controlled.
