MODIFIED WHITNEY-NUISMER CRITERIA FOR PREDICTION OF NOTCHED STRENGTH OF COMPOSITE LAMINATES

Novel criteria for estimating the open hole tension strength of laminated composites based on a modification of the widely used Whitney-Nuismer criteria are proposed. The new criteria are simple and provide excellent agreement with experimental results for different laminate toughness and hole sizes. The required amount of tests is reduced because no hole size correction factors are needed.
