Considered one of the least efficient birds to fly, the Eared grebe (Podiceps nigricollis) loses up to 50% of their body mass during a non-stop migratory flight of ~1000 km. This study uses CFD for a stability analysis of the grebe during dynamic flapping flight to determine how grebes may compensate for this change in dynamic loading during the course of migration.
