COUPLED ADJOINT AEROSTRUCTURAL OPTIMIZATION FRAMEWORK FOR PRELIMINARY AIRCRAFT DESIGN

The goal of this research is to develop an aerostructural analysis and optimization method/tool for aircraft preliminary design, where the computational cost is much lower than the high fidelity optimization methods, but the same level of accuracy is still quite comparable. This is achieved by combining a quasi-three-dimensional aerodynamic analysis with a finite beam element structural solver.
