FLEXFLOIL SHAPE ADAPTIVE CONTROL SURFACES-FLIGHT TEST AND NUMERICAL RESULTS

S. Kota, FlexSys Inc, United States; J.R.R.A. Martins, University of Michigan, United States

The U.S Air Force and NASA concluded flight tests of a Gulfstream GIII retrofitted with shape adaptive trailing edge control surfaces towards the goal of developing morphing control surfaces. FlexFoil™ variable geometry control surfaces were successfully demonstrated. Design optimization studies show the potential performance gains for transport aircraft.
