The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has developed the airborne turbulence information system using the airborne Doppler lidar. The system is designed to inform pilots of preceding turbulence/windshear in clear sky condition, in which the existing airborne Doppler radar does not work. The JAXA successfully demonstrated its turbulence/windshear detection capability through the flight test.
