EXPERIMENTAL AND CFD STUDY OF KRUEGER FLAPS

A study of a laminar airfoil with different Krueger flaps was performed. Better understanding the flow field in the area between the flap and the airfoil was achieved for three distinctive cases – without a slot, with aerodynamically inadequately designed slot and with aerodynamically conveniently designed slot. Favourable flow field characteristics are identified and recommendations concerning effective geometric design are drawn.
