A TECHNIQUE FOR CAPTURING STAKEHOLDER PREFERENCES AND KNOWLEDGE IN EARLY DESIGN STUDIES

S. Sartorius, United States; M. Hornung, Technical University of Munich Institute of Aircraft Design, Germany

The work presents a technique for explicitly capturing and utilizing preference information and expert wisdom in early design studies. Crucially, the technique leverages mathematical optimization, a powerful design tool, while still acknowledging and accounting for uncertainty in requirements, fluid design objectives, and modeling that may not capture all fidelity normally needed for optimization.
