AN ACTIVE-PASSIVE NONLINEAR FINITE ELEMENT MODEL FOR ELECTROMECHANICAL COMPOSITE MORPHING BEAMS

THE USE OF SMART, MORPHING STRUCTURES AIMS TO INCREASE AERODYNAMIC EFFICIENCY, DECREASING FUEL CONSUMPTION AND OVERALL WEIGHT. WITHIN THIS CONTEXT, PIEZOELECTRIC MATERIALS ARE OF GREAT INTEREST IN THE DESIGN OF SMART STRUCTURES BECAUSE IT CAN WORK AS SENSOR AND ACTUATOR. THE PRESENT WORK PRESENTS A NONLINEAR FINITE ELEMENT MODEL BASED ON TIMOSHENKO’S BEAM THEORY AND ITS BEHAVIOR UNDER HIGH LOADS.
