One potential area of improvement of efficiency is to reduce drag due to the requirement of positive stability. The approach used in this paper is to look at control surface actuators and different means to utilize more of force control. E.g. to introduce a canard with compliance that can stabilize the system in a passive way, making certification more feasible.
