ROBUST DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF BENCHMARK AERODYNAMIC CASE BASED ON POLYNOMIAL CHAOS EXPANSION

An airfoil optimization test case is studied by robust design optimization (RDO) method to regularize the problem of aerodynamic sensitivity to uncertainties. An effective RDO framework based on polynomial chaos expansion is built. The results show that deterministic optimization is often ill posed and RDO achieves robust performance under uncertainties.
