ADDRESSING TECHNICAL AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS TO DEPLOY STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEMS ON COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT

D. Roach¹, T. Rice¹; ¹Sandia National Laboratories, United States

The use of in-situ sensors for real-time Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of aircraft structures provides a viable option to overcome inspection impediments stemming from accessibility limitations, complex geometries, and the depth of hidden damage. This paper presents the results from successful SHM technology validation and regulatory approval programs.
