THE SANTOS-DUMONT LEGACY TO AERONAUTICS

M. Pazini Brandão, Technological Institute of Aeronautics, Brazil

Several pioneers have contributed to aeronautics. The Brazilian Alberto Santos-Dumont pioneered the dirigible and the airplane, and gave technical contributions to the hot-air balloon and to the helicopter. His Demoiselle was the first airplane to be produced in the scale of hundreds. He must be recognized, among all pioneers, as the one who provided the most relevant contributions to aeronautics.
