We describe potential alternative airspace tube design choices and the tradeoffs involved in selecting one set of design parameters over another. We discuss the potential throughput, reliability, workload, and safety gains that can be made through the use of a structured flexible tube network. We calculate airspace metrics for sample tube designs to provide concrete knowledge of the numerical tradeoffs between design parameter choices.
