Two optimization methodologies are examined in the design of airfoils. The Direct Numerical Optimization process coupled with a Particle Swarm Optimizer is first examined through a panel method solver. The DNO approach can be computationally demanding, thus Artificial Neural Networks are integrated within the DNO process to address this issue.
