A method of optimizing large-scale air-combat formation tactics is investigated. A weighting method is used to model the problem of formation optimization; the hierarchical coding method is developed to encode formation; and the simulated annealing algorithm is embedded into genetic algorithm to realize the optimization while overcoming the premature convergence.
