Keywords: hypersonic rarefied-gas flow, viscous shock layer, aerodynamic coefficients

Nonequilibrium rarefied-gas flows over blunt bodies are studied by solving Navier-Stokes equations, thin-viscous-shock-layer equations, and DSMC method under conditions of wind-tunnel experiments and hypersonic-vehicle flights at altitudes from 60 to 110 km. Temperature and width of the catalytically influenced zone are used in predicting heat fluxes at catalytic surface materials.
