A NOVEL CONTROL APPROACH TO IMPROVE SPEED COMMANDS AND PILOT WORKLOAD FOR FLIGHT-DECK BASED INTERVAL MANAGEMENT

T. Riedel, Keio University / Electronic Navigation Research Institute, Japan

In an effort to improve the operational feasibility of Flight-deck Interval Management (FIM), various strategies to reduce the pilot workload and total amount of interval management speed commands, such as the adaption of robotic pathfinding algorithms, are examined. Further discussion on how to apply these strategies to ground-based air traffic management systems is made.
