Prognostic systems in transport aircraft should lead to maintenance cost reductions and to increases in aircraft availability and dispatch reliability. To evaluate the economic potentials of prognostics combined with flexible maintenance concepts, a discrete event simulation approach for operation and maintenance, followed by a lifecycle cost-benefit analysis, is presented.
