Retrofittable energy absorbing multi-material composite structures are proposed to enhance the crashworthiness of aged metallic helicopter subfloors. Numerical simulation techniques are used to study the feasibility of the retrofits. GLARE and retrofit designed for subfloor intersection are the key design drivers to achieve enhanced energy absorption.
