Long distance flights would become more attractive if travel times could be reduced drastically by flying at hypersonic speeds. The high temperatures encountered during hypersonic flights however require highly optimised and innovative structural concepts. The current paper presents the aero-elastic optimisation of the structure of a Mach 5 vehicle.
