A study into the effects of distributed surface roughness on transition within rotor-stator devices is presented. Stability analyses of the BEK system with increasing surface roughness are completed and discussed in the context of experimental results. Roughness is expected to promote a bypass of the traditional cross-flow dominated transition mechanisms.
