This paper describes DLR's recent research activities on the flight performance and dynamics of modern lightweight gyroplanes. The simulation model of an MTOsport gyroplane which is validated by flight test data is used in order to investigate flight performance characteristics of gyroplanes in comparison to lightweight airplanes.
