This paper summarises the achievements of the Smart Skies Project, an award winning international project that researched, developed and flight tested four automated aviation technologies: an electro-optical mid-air collision avoidance system, a static obstacle avoidance system, a ground-based air traffic surveillance system, and a global automated airspace separation management system.
