Previous literature demonstrates that boundary-layer slot injection and combustion of hydrogen significantly reduces engine wall skin friction. However, slot injection is not feasible in a practical engine design. The efficacy of porthole injection behind a backward-facing step is examined, and the spacing requirements for this geometry is defined.
