This paper reviews the history of the FanWing STOL aircraft and describes recent aerodynamic improvements to widen its flight speed range. Several possible UAV applications are presented, including Surveillance, Crop-spraying and Emergency Aid. A study of short-field cargo operations compares the costs of FanWing with aircraft and helicopter configurations.
