HUMAN-IN-THE-LOOP EVALUATION OF GROUND-BASED AUTOMATED SEPARATION ASSURANCE FOR NEXTGEN

Ground-based automated separation assurance was evaluated in human-in-the-loop simulations at NASA Ames Research Center. In a simulated NextGen environment controllers managed aircraft at 1x, 2x and 3x traffic densities with varying levels of conflict detection and resolution automation. In this paper results on efficiency, safety, workload and acceptability are presented.
