Aeronautics and air transport face global challenges, which include increasing environmental concerns, rising air space capacity needs and a global industrial competition. Joint efforts on the European level have the goal to tackle those challenges and to prepare for the future. The main goals are presented and typical examples of research measures on European level are given.
