Fundamental peculiarities of optimal aerospace vehicle ascent trajectories and control laws induced by the atmospheric phase are investigated on the rigorous basis of the Pontryagin maximum principle. Conditions for qualitatively new extremals are defined in a space of layout parameters according to the developed classification.
