The paper describes the concept and validation exercises for daytime Continuous Descent Approaches. Efficient CDA operation in a busy environment can be achieved by enabling technology, eg FMS functions, cockpit cues, data-link and strategic and tactical ATC tools. The promising results were obtained within the European 6th FW OPTIMAL project.
