To quantitatively characterise composite laminate stacking sequences, of the sort commonly used in aircraft and spacecraft construction, which approximate isotropic material in both extensional (in-plane) and bending (out-of-plane) behaviour. This type of material provides the behavioural characteristics of metals with the superior lightness and strength of carbon fibre laminated composites.
