The design of winglets has to consider aeroelastic deflections regarding the lift-to-drag-ratio in varying cruise flight conditions and also regarding the wing’s sizing loads. Active and passive structural measures for influencing aeroelastic deflections are discussed concerning aerodynamic effectiveness in relation to structural costs in terms of mass and complexity.
