An investigation was performed to study the effect of supercooled large-droplet ice accretion on an advanced airfoil section by wind-tunnel testing. It was concluded that the accretion degraded significantly the aerodynamic performance. Hence the consequences of the phenomenon to flight safety are very important for advanced low-speed wing designs.
